Few places celebrate Independence Day quite like Charleston. From waterfront fireworks, family-friendly festivals and beachside celebrations, the Lowcountry offers plenty of ways to spend the holiday weekend. Whether you’re a longtime local or visiting for the holiday, here are some of the top Fourth of July events happening around Charleston this year.
Patriots Point 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular
One of the most iconic Independence Day celebrations in the region takes place aboard the historic USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. According to the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, the event includes live music, family-friendly activities, food and beverage vendors, and a 20-minute fireworks show over Charleston Harbor. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4.
North Charleston Fourth of July Festival
If you’re looking for a free event, Riverfront Park will once again host North Charleston’s annual Fourth of July Festival. The celebration features live music, food vendors, family activities, and what organizers describe as one of the Lowcountry’s largest fireworks displays. Gates open at 5 p.m., and fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
Waterfront Independence Day Celebration
New this year, Charleston’s SC250 Commission will host the Waterfront Independence Day Celebration at Waterfront Park. The event will feature family-friendly programming, live performances, and a coordinated fireworks display over the Charleston peninsula. Festivities begin at 4 p.m., with fireworks scheduled for approximately 9:40 p.m.
Folly Beach Fireworks
For those looking to spend the holiday by the ocean, Folly Beach’s annual fireworks display remains one of the most popular Fourth of July traditions in the Charleston area. The fireworks will launch near the Folly Beach Pier beginning around 9 p.m. and can be viewed from much of the shoreline.
Whether you’re watching fireworks from the deck of the USS Yorktown, relaxing at Folly Beach, or enjoying live music along the Cooper River, Charleston offers no shortage of ways to celebrate Independence Day. With events taking place across the region, Fourth of July weekend is one of the best times to experience everything the Lowcountry has to offer.
